Wa All Stars goalkeeper Richard Ofori wants to be the number one goal keeper for the Black Stars ahead of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Ethiopia.

Ofori has been in top shape since 2015/2016 season and helped his team to win the Ghana Premier League that season.

Ofori manned the post once for the Black Stars at 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in the third-place match against the Stallions of Burkina Faso.

The 23-year-old hopes he will be given the chance to show his skills in post for the team.

“Every young goalkeeper’s dream is that after he has gotten up, he will get some time to play,” he told journalists, “so I am expecting to be given chance to play and we will play well.”

Further, the goalkeeper welcomes competition from the other goalkeepers, who have been called to join the team “It’s a great competition for football. When you are scared of competition you can’t play because wherever you find yourself, there is completion. So what you will do is to do your best. Everyone is doing his best. We can’t determine who is number one, but what we will do is to concentrate and move the team forward”.

He continued: “Now my concentration and everything is on the national team and my club Wa All Stars.”

Richard Ofori commended new goalkeeper’s trainer Richard Kingson for the training sessions he is taking them through. “Any goalkeeper’s trainer or coach has his own philosophy, so we need to go buy it. You will meet different ones but everybody has his style of coaching. So you have to follow the instruction of the goalkeeper’s trainer, he is doing very well. All of them are good but I will say he is doing very well”.
