Real Madrid forward Rodrygo Goes has expressed his disappointment with France Football after being left out of the 30-player shortlist for the 2024 Ballon d’Or award.
The Brazilian forward believes that his achievements with Real Madrid in 2024 merit recognition by the award committee.
Rodrygo acknowledged that he cannot change the decision made by the award organizers and will instead focus on performing well in the new season to prove his worth.
“Ballon d’Or list? I was upset, I think I deserved it. I don’t want to belittle the players who are there, but I think I had a place in the 30s. It was a surprise... But there’s not much I can do, I’m not the one who decides these things,” he said, as shared by Madrid Zone on X.
Rodrygo played a crucial role for Real Madrid in the 2023/2024 season, helping the club win the UEFA Champions League and La Liga.
Among the nominated players are Vinicius Junior, Fede Valverde, Jude Bellingham, Kylian Mbappe, Rodri, Lamine Yamal, and others.
Vinicius is a favourite among football pundits and fans to win this year’s prestigious award after scoring 24 goals and providing 11 assists for Madrid last season.
The award ceremony is scheduled for October 28, 2024, in Paris, France.
