Row In Lions Den Over Bonuses

The Indomitable Lions whom before the competition were promised FCFA 73 million each if they win the trophy refused to collect their bonuses on Thursday when they qualified for the next round. The FCFA 73million each was a decision agreed on in a tripartite meeting between the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education, FECAFOOT and the 23 players called up for the Ghana jamboree.

The players demanded FCFA 85 million each but they eventually settled for FCFA 73 million. Each player in the Lions' den was given FCFA 20 million, as participation fee, then an additional FCFA 10 million each if they qualify for the next round, FCFA 8 million if they win the quarterfinal and FCFA 10 million for a Semi final victory and FCFA 25 million each if they win the final, which totals to FCFA 73 million each.

But after the 4-2 defeat by Egypt in the opening match, The Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Augustine Edjoa promised an additional FCFA 5 million if they qualify for the second round.

When they beat Sudan 3-0 and qualified, the Minister wanted to pay the players only the FCFA 10 million as earlier agreed but the players refused and were demanding for the additional FCFA 5 million promised them. As of press time, negotiations were still going on to resolve the problem
