SESSA Hockey: Prisons Win Double Bronze

Prisons brushed aside Police in both men and women’s competition under the bright floodlights of the National Hockey Stadium to win the bronze medals on the penultimate day of the SESSA Hockey competition.

Prisons women set the tone with a narrow 1-0 win over a youthful Police side which contested their older and experienced counterparts in all departments of the game, except putting the ball into the goal.

The men’s match was equally exciting with the youthful Police side dominating the greater part of the exchanges but wasting the countless opportunities they created. Prisons held their nerves till the last 15 minutes of the game when Emmanuel Nartey converted from open play for the first goal. The Police defense became jittery after conceding the goal and gave away a penalty stroke under minimum pressure which was well taken by Benedict Sam to seal the victory.

The Gold medal matches push off under floodlights on Thursday with the women doing battle at 17:30hrs as CEPS seek to subdue Fire and the men taking the field at 20:00hrs with CEPS and Ghana Armed Forces set to sell out an absolute cracker
