Accra, Nov 29, GNA - State Insurance Company (SIC) of Ghana on Thursday, presented a cheque of 7,500 GHC or 75 million cedis to the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) to organize the 2007 SIC-SWAG match.
The match dubbed "H.P Nyemitei Cup Match" would be played between Accra Hearts of Oak and Liberty Professionals at the Ohene Djan Stadium in Accra on Wednesday, December 5.
Mr Franklin Asafo Adjei, Deputy Managing Director of SIC said the presentation is to fulfill their annual commitment to the Association towards the organization of the SIC-SWAG Cup Match. He said it also forms part of their corporate social responsibility as SIC has over the past years helped in the development and promotion of sports in Ghana.
Mr. Ackah Anthony, President of SWAG was grateful to the company for supporting the event, which he said has become a significant aspect of the sporting calendar.
He expressed the hope that the money would help the Association to organize a successful competition. Mr. Anthony announced that plans are in place to expand the annual SWAG match into a mini tournament with international dimension. He called on followers of the two Clubs to troop to the stadium to cheer their darling teams to ensure an entertaining sporting event.
