SONA 2020: Sports complexes to be ready by end of 2020 – Akufo-Addo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has given the assurance that the multi-purpose sports complex being constructed across ten region will be completed before the end of the year.

The complexes which the government believes will address the infrastructure challenges in the sports sector have been under construction since 2018.

The projects were expected to be completed nine months after sod cutting however due to a myriad of reasons they are still under construction.

Delivering his fourth State of the Nation Address on Thursday February 20, the President disclosed that all ten projects will be ready for use by close of the year.

"All ten facilities will be completed this and the six new regions will have the same facilities from this year"

“We are making sure that there will be room for the future Alice Anums, Mike Aheys, and Baba Yaras so they can develop their skills.

"We want to make sure that when our children turn on the television sets to watch sporting programmes and events, they will be able to find Ghanaians competing at the highest levels in terms of track and field.”

The facilities are being constructed in Wa, Dormaa, Dunkwa-on-Offin, Ho, Koforidua, Nyinahin, Axim, Yendi, Navrongo and Kaneshie.

When completed each of the facility will boast of a FIFA standard pitch, eight-lane athletics track, basketball, volleyball, tennis Courts, ICT Centre, Entrepreneurship/ Counseling Centres, washrooms, and a modern restaurant.
