The desire by Lawrence Nyanyo Nmai to spearhead the promotion of kickboxing in Ghana is a mission that has now received a massive boost following the receipt of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) 2010 award by the ace kickboxer.
The World Kickboxing Federation (WKF) President in Ghana leads a 9 member team to world championship on August 19 in Germany with renewed vigour and determination to do more than he had previously done to champion the sport’s cause.
“I feel very good and privileged. Its my first time going to the SWAG Awards and seeing all the big dignitaries there. It makes me feel great and proud.
“It’s also goes to all that whatever you do, you have to do it very well and you will get your reward. Even if its construction that you do, you have to do it well otherwise you won’t get another contract again,” Lawrence Nyanyo Nmai, a 4-time word champion has told All Sports.
“I’m following in the footsteps of my father, the founder of Labadi Beach, Samuel Nyanyo Nmai and amateur boxer in Japan and a gymnastic instructor. May he soul lost rest in perfect peace,” said the kickboxer.
After excelling at the world kickboxing championship in Scotland last year where he won bronze medal, Nyanyo Nmai was recognized by the nation’s sports journalists association together with fellow kickboxer Joseph Mingle now rechristened Nii Mankralo of Sakaman.
He wants that to be an inspiration as he and Team Ghana will compete at the World Kickboxing Championships 2011 in Karlsruhe, Germany from 21st to 28th August in the disciplines Karate, Light-contact, Point-fighting, Forms, Kick- and Thai-Boxing, Grappling and MMA featuring approximately 2000 fighters.
He promises nothing but very good results for Ghanaians.
“This award is a very good start for kickboxing, all the fighters will feel inspired to work hard to also come for an award like this again in the future. So this world championship we are going next, I am training very hard so that I will go and win gold so I can come for the award again,” Nyanyo Nmai said.
