The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) and GIJ Chapter are co-organizing an event aimed at lecturing students on “How to make a career in sports journalism in Ghana”.

“This is a life-changing seminar you need to help provide you with guidance in the quest to settling on your career after GIJ,” the SWAG-GIJ Communications’ statement noted.

The free entry conference is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, March 19 at 11:00 AM GMT. The venue is the Lecture Hall B2 at the Ghana Institute of Journalism in Accra. Aspiring sports journalists are encouraged to attend the event which would see international football journalist Angela Akua Asante (aka Triple A) share precious insights on her 11-year career in this industry dominated by male reporters.

Angela’s journey in the world of sports journalism has seen her focus more in the realm of online publishing than in TV and radio broadcasting, although her CV includes special World Cup 2018 correspondence for TV3 and Joy Multimedia, Premier League punditry on Citi FM and Citi TV, and a five-year spell as BBC Afrique’s only French-speaking sports correspondent based in Ghana.

Earlier in February, she marked 10 years at Live Soccer TV, an authoritative US-based football news and broadcast listings website where she went from starting as a junior writer to becoming the leader of its multinational team of editors. Re-evaluating how her profession as a Digital Content and Social Media Manager has evolved in the past decade, Triple A declared in her latest post on TITA blog:

“You’re going to notice that you really don’t know much in the end. So much has changed in the scope of online publishers and social media marketing. New tools. New services. It can feel overwhelming to keep up with new trends and stricter rules on the internet.”

The under-30 female entrepreneur is currently helping the American company market its new product — a multi-platform broadcast listings widget — whilst also preparing TITA Productions’ next football-themed video series this summer. The latter will be a new addition to Angela’s portfolio of self-produced video content.

After premiering the CRD7 World Cup Documentary — for which she self-funded her entire trip to Russia 2018, Angela also self-funded her project to film, direct and produce the “Women’s AFCON with Triple A” which was the only video web-series covering the 2018 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations hosted right in Ghana, back in November-December last year.

In the line up of the SWAG-GIJ seminar on March 19, Angela Akua Asante will be the only female among the four speakers which include Thierry Nyann of TV3 Sports, Saddick Adams of Atinka FM and Fentuo Tahiru of Citi FM. The male trio replaces George Addo Junior of Joy FM and Eric Asiedu Boadi of Asempa FM who were put on the list for the event which was initially meant to take place on Tuesday, February 26.
