In line with its constitution, the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) is to go to the polls on Saturday, November 3, 2001 to elect officers to steer its affairs for the next four years.
A statement issued by the association yesterday and signed by its General Secretary, Mr Emmanuel Amoako, said only fully, paid-up members would be eligible to stand for the elections or exercise their franchise.
The statement also said that Mr Harry Mouzalas of the Ghana News Agency (GNA) has been appointed the Electoral Commissioner and members vying for various positions are expected to file their nominations with him by the close of the day on Wednesday, October 31, 2001.
In all, seven executive positions are to be filled. They are: President, Vice-President, General Secretary, Assistant General Secretary, Treasurer, and two executive members.
The last time the SWAG held its elections was in 1997 and the Presidency was won by Mr Joe Aggrey, former Group Sports Editor of the Graphic, who was recently appointed Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports.
Mr Ebo Quansah, Vice-President of the association, has since been acting as President.
