SWAG sends goodwill message to Black Stars and Premier League Clubs

Accra, Oct. 8, GNA – The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) has urged members of the senior national team, the Black Stars to go all out in their final qualifier for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations against Sudan on Saturday, October 8, in Sudan.

In a goodwill message from the secretariat of the Association, it said though the task seem to be a daunting one, it was convinced the Stars have the experience and the temperament to overcome the challenges in the match and return home with the three maximum points.

It said, “Ghana has over the past years regained its glory on the continent as one of the best football nations and this could further be manifested by a qualification to the next Cup of Nations.

“And the safest way to ensure qualification is to grab the three maximum points at stake”. The statement added.

The statement stated that, even though the Stars may come up against an intimidating crowd in Sudan among other unfavorable conditions, “SWAG is convinced that, it will not deter our gallant Stars from delivering the three points”.

In another development, SWAG has sent a goodwill message to all Clubs as the 2010/11 Glo Premier League commences on Saturday and Sunday.

It urged the Premier League Clubs to use the 2010/11 League as an opportunity to regain the confidence of soccer fans in the League.

The statement regretted that the local league has in recent times received a low patronage from soccer fans and there was therefore the need to reverse the trend through a display of quality football from the participating Clubs in all the matches as an encouragement to the fans and supporters.

The statement pledged the commitment of the Association in promoting the local league since sports journalism strives much on football.
