Accra, June 15, GNA - The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) will this year confer special honours on two distinguished sports personalities for their contributions to the development of sports in the country.
Mr Simms Mensah, former Chief Executive Officer of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, at a point in the history of the Club revived its fortunes and ensured that they regained their glory on the local and international scene.
A statement from the secretariat of the Association said, the Association deems the achievement of Mr Mensah as significant in the history of the Club and the development of football in Ghana as a whole.
The Association will similarly, also confer a posthumous award to Mr Tommy Thompson, former Chief Executive Officer of Accra Hearts of Oak for his immense contributions to the success of the Club and the development of football in Ghana.
The statement said the Association recognizes the contribution of the two individuals to the development of football and sports as a whole in the country.
The MTN/SWAG Awards is fixed for July 2, at the Banquet Hall, State House, Accra and it is expected to attract all the major players in sports in Ghana.
