Legendary Ghanaian footballer, Charles Taylor, has raised concerns about the technical team of the Black Stars led by head coach Otto Addo.
He asserted that some of the persons who are part of the backroom staff, especially former defender John Paintsil, are not experienced enough to handle the role.
The former Kotoko striker admonished Otto Addo to revamp his technical team staff and get more experienced people on board if he wants to succeed as Black Stars coach.
Speaking on Angel TV, Charles Taylor bemoaned the Black Stars’ inability to qualify for the 2025 AFCON with a disastrous performance.
“If you pick John Paintsil as an assistant, are you a good coach? Paintsil himself said he hadn’t gotten to that level yet but was given the role. I want to know if the GFA or Otto Addo decides the backroom staff because the current people won’t help him to succeed.
“The technical team members don’t deserve to be there. I said earlier that Addo cannot qualify Ghana for the 2025 AFCON because his demeanour even shows. You have this wealth of talented players, so why can’t you qualify from a group of Sudan, Angola, and Niger?"
This comes after Otto Addo reportedly complained about the lack of experience in his backroom staff as one of the reasons that accounted for the team’s poor performance when he met the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council on November 27, 2024.
The meeting ended inconclusively as the GFA indicated that they would engage more stakeholders, including political figures, to determine the fate of Otto Addo.
