The annual Denkyen new year soccer fiesta for under 15’s came off at the community two number four primary school in Tema on new years day, to climax the activities of Denkyem Charitable foundation (Ghana) for the year 2015.
The event, which is a seven aside soccer tournament involved teams from the community two, five and Tema Newtown. Six teams in all partook in the event to win the attractive prices at stake donated by the foundation, which is supported by its affiliates; Denkyem sports Academy (U.S.A), Give2Ghana.org, and King Global Ventures.
At the end of the day, Sakasaka boys from the community two police barracks won after beating BBC on penalties by four goals to three, after winning the under 10’s tournament just about a fortnight ago. They beat Tema New town, and community five, before dispatching the boys from BBC in the final.
The best player award went to master Ben Ghartey from the winning team and was presented with a trophy, a jersey and pants to match.
The goal king award went to Ekow Gyan of the Sakasaka team who also received a trophy, an award and a jersey.
There were female players who also featured in the game, and it was not surprising Rhoda Owusu featuring for the community 5 team won the fair play award.
Other prizes were presented to deserving players, as well as cash prizes to all the participating teams.
The winner was presented with a trophy and soccer ball apart from the cash donations, and the runner up, a soccer ball and cash for their efforts.
Denkyem Vice president Ato Yanney Jr, delivered a message on behalf of King Ohene Asomaning the president of the organization, encouraging the players to strive for greatness, their alliance with Life Center Academy in the United States of America, and the plans for the year 2016.
