Sam Johnson For Aston Villa

The local newspapers in Turkey are linking Fenerbahce and Ghana midfielder Samuel Johnson with possible moves to Aston Villa in the summer. He's suppose to be making the move with team-mate, keeper Rustu Recber.

The pair are just the right side of 30, and have plenty of international experience with Ghana and Turkey respectively.

Johnson is one of the Fenerbache's favourite players. He is listed as a defender but plays more in a defensive midfield role. He is one of those players who tackles and runs tirelessly and puts in 100% effort. He is not really the type of midfielder you look to, to create chances but he is solid, good in the air, has a decent shot from range and a knack for picking up goals.

If Villa are thinking of moving out wide in their style of play to whip in some crosses to Crouch then Johnson could be a very good player to have in the centre keeping things solid. His previous clubs include Kalamata FC (Greece), Anderlecht (Belgium) and Gaziantepspor (Turkey) and he is a regular in the Ghanaian national team having played in four Africa Nations Cup tournaments.

Both players are probably the most consistent performers for Fenerbahce (reigning Turkish League champions) and are also the most popular. The Fener fans would be gutted to see them go while in contrast a few Galatasaray fans I have talked to are quite pleased by the thought of a Fenerbahce next season without them. Unfortunately I have no idea about potential transfer fees for either player and the rumours could very well amount to nothing.
