Sam Johnson regrets not winning a trophy with the Black Stars

Former Ghana International Sam Johnson has lamented on his inability to win a trophy with the Black Stars.

The ex-Fenerbahçe defender was a huge figure in the Black Stars team in the mid 90’s.

Johnson, nicknamed “foyo” played at three Africa Cup of Nations tournaments with the Black Stars thus in 1996, 1998 and 2000 but could not win any with the National team.

The 45-year-old has bemoaned his failure to win a laurel with the Black Stars.

“My greatest regret is I never won anything for Ghana. I did not play in the junior so I can’t talk about that but my greatest regret is not winning for Ghana,” he told Ghanaweb.

The former Hearts of Oak players however revealed his happiest moment in his football career.

“My happiest moment is when I beat Galatasary 1-0. That game was our hell because we played at their home ground. They were on fire, they had just beaten Arsenal in the European Cup final and they beat Real Madrid in the Champions of Champions so you can imagine the kind of team we were playing with”.

“They had more than 26 chance and we never had one. Everybody was looking at one side in the first half. In the second half too, everybody was looking at one side.

He is currently working as a physical instructor at his own gym and also a member of the professional football association of Ghana.
