Sammy Adjei Retires

Ghana International Second goalkeeper, Sammy Adjei has retired from international engagements with the Black stars.

The 27 year-old, who plays professional football for Israeli club side, Moadon Sports Ashdod said in a telephone interview with Happy Sports on Happy FM he was resigning to give way for the younger Ghanaian goalkeepers to also have an opportunity to serve the Nation. He said he also want to commit fully to club football to help his club fight relegation battle in the Israeli league.

Ashdod lies only above bottom club--- in the league. He had 33 caps for Ghana and played in the the last World Cup in Germany for Ghana. Sammy Adjei has featured in the Africa Cup of Nations three times winning none. He has also won the African Champions League with Accra Hearts of Oak before leaving for greener pastures in Tunisia.

The signs of resignation were there at the recent Nations Cup in Ghana when he refused to warm up after first choice goalkeeper Richard Kingson got injured in Ghana’s semifinal match with Cameroon.
