Sammy Adjei blasts Olele

Former Black Stars goalkeeper Sammy Adjei has stated categorically that his colleague Richard Olele Kingson contributed to his bench-warming during his last days with the senior national team.

Adjei, with an impressive track record of three World Cups with U17, U-20 and the Black Stars teams, described Olele’s silence when he (Adjei) fell out of favour with the technical team as disappointing.

He revealed that “Olele found his way back to the (Black Stars) team upon my recommendation”, yet he (Olele) found nothing wrong with his continued stay on the bench including in friendly games.

The former Accra Hearts of Oak keeper, a member of the CAF Champions League, Super Cup and Confederations Cup wining side, said on Asempa Sports yesterday, “…Yea, I can say he disappointed me because I recommended him to the technical team then, but we Gas don’t help each other like the Akans.

“The Gas do the opposite. When a neighbour is prospering they find means to repress the progress. I have left everything in the hands of God, training on the quiet, and hoping to rejoin the Black Stars.

“I have not retired yet because I am still young. A goalkeeper like Iker Casillas is still keeping the post, why can’t I?”

Adjei was Ghana’s first choice goalkeeper until after the Black Stars’ shambolic Nations Cup showing in Egypt in 2006. He sat on the bench throughout the Germany 2006 World Cup.

Known in football circles as ‘Bartez’, Adjei spent seasons in the Tunisia and Israel top flight leagues in his illustrious career.
