There was a major shock at the maiden Division One League awards on Saturday night when Samudeen Ibrahim of King Solomon FC swooped to win the Player of the Season award ahead of the highly-fancied Joel Fameyeh of the Local Black Stars fame.

Fameyeh, who shot to fame this year when he excelled for the Local Black Stars by scoring goals for the home-based national team, was tipped to win the award because of his heroics for his club Asokwa Deportivo.

However, officials who have observed all the matches in the league opted to choose the young midfielder from the Koforidua-based King Solomon FC for the top award which turned out to be the biggest surprise of the night.

The award to Ibrahim highlights the depth of talent in the Division One League showing that there are more players there who could serve the top-flight league with top talents.

The goal-king award went to Bright Lukeman of Ebusua Dwarfs with Enoch Atta Agyei of Windy Professionals scooping the Most Promising Player award.

Techiman City shot-stopper Razak Iddrisu won the Best Goalkeeper of the Season award while Ebenezer Coleman of Elmina Sharks took the Best Defender award.

Shockingly, Berekum Arsenal, a club infamous for torturing opposing fans and teams, was handed the Fair Play award which was basically decided by the number of yellow and red cards received by teams during matches.

This presents the clear opportunity for Berekum Arsenal to rebuild their image as a violent club but their award won't go without notice.

Several officials who have contributed to the Division One League were also honoured on the night with Ho Voradep chief Mawuse Dake, Douglas Djarbeng Nana Ntiri Denkyi and Ntow Fianko all receiving awards for their roles in building up the competition over the years.

The Division One League Board's first ever Awards ceremony was held on at the Coconut Groove Hotel in Accra.

The ceremony recognized and awarded Players, Officials and Clubs who excelled in the 2014/15 edition of the GN Bank Division One League.
