Sannie Daara: When you clamour for a local coach, be prepared to defend him

Ghana Football Association (GFA) spokesperson Saanie Daara has made a passionate appeal to Ghanaians that when they clamour for a local coach; they should equally be prepared to defend him when he is appointed.
Sannie Daara who granted an exclusive interview to Football 360’s Christine Dzakah on Monday explained that he was the only person who defended Coach Kwesi Appiah when he was in charge of the Black Stars few years ago.

“You know Kwesi Appiah had the opportunity to coach the team. Who were his number one critics? Not foreigners, Ghanaians were. Nobody in this country was able to stand up for the coach and defend his dignity, I was the only one.”

Saanie Daara however admitted that despite the clamour for a local coach, the committee setup to appoint a coach for the Black Stars will focus on competence but not mere sentiments.
“I understand that there is a local clamour for a local coach. If we are appointing a local coach, if indeed yes it is, we are appointing that person not because of sentiments but because the person is competent enough to do the job.

”At the end of the day if you give it to a local and he doesn’t perform, these same people will turn against the person. Even when they perform sometimes we turn against them.

“So when we clamour for our own and we think that our own should come, we should also clamour that when they come we would defend him,” the FA spokesperson maintained.

It is expected that Ghanaian coach Kwesi Appiah will be given the second opportunity to lead the Black Stars in the coming weeks.

Football 360 now airs on Kwese Free Sports, Mondays at 7pm.
