Sarpei heads to Leverkusen

Bayer Leverkusen have raided Bundesliga rivals Wolfsburg to sign Ghana international Hans Sarpei on a free transfer.

The 30-year-old, who had been linked with Premiership side Fulham, can play in either defence or midfield. He joined Wolfsburg in 2001 and made over 130 appearances for the Wolves.

Wolfsburg coach Klaus Augenthaler decided not to renew Sarpei's contract, which expires this summer, with the Ghanaian delighted to seal a move to the BayArena.

After putting pen-to-paper on a two-year deal, Sarpei revealed: "It's great news for me. I am full of joy about the move and I am looking forward to playing international football with Bayer next season."
