Sarpong ‘impressed’ with Grant

Ebusua Dwarfs manager Joseph Emmanuel Sarpong has commended Avram Grant for Friday’s seminar for Ghana Premier League coaches.

The one-day event, which was held at the Alisa Hotel in Accra, was to enable the Black Stars manager interact with coaches from the local topflight.

Sarpong’s comments appear to have contravened an earlier report quoting him to have said that he would not be part of any of Grant’s programmes.

The former Liberty Professionals manager has also been a long-standing critic of Grant’s continuous stay in Europe at the expense of monitoring players in the local championship.

“I think he [Grant] did a very good job by organizing the seminar and I am impressed,” Sarpong told Citi FM.

“I have never said I would not attend his seminar.

“What I said was that I would not attend a coaching course organized by him.”

Monday marks the end of Grant’s first year as Ghana coach following his appointment in November 2014. The Israeli officially began work on December 1, 2014 and led the Black Stars to clinch silver at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations two months later.

Sarpong added: “To be fair to him, he has done a very good job in his one-year reign as Black Stars coach.

“But let’s still hope that the second year comes better.”

In a related development, Grant will hold a media briefing on Monday at the FA secretariat in Accra.

Black Stars management committee members as well as GFA officials will be available to answer questions from the media.
