Schuster denies knowledge of Ghana coaching nomination

Renowned German tactician Bernd Schuster has distanced himself from the vacant Ghana coaching job after he reportedly denied knowledge of being shortlisted for the role by the Ghana Football Association.

Schuster has told a German television channel he is in the dark over his nomination for the interview by the Ghana Football Association.

The Ghana Football Association announced on Monday evening, they have shortlisted the former Real Madrid manager for interview as replacement for Dutchman Patrick Kluivert who withdrew from the race last week.

Schuster, 54, was expected to compete for the Black Stars job along with Michel Pont, Marco Tardelli, Avram Grant and Juan Ignicio Jimenenz but with the latest development, the job will be between the quartet.

Schuster’s reported withdrawal from the race will leave the Ghana Football Association to either stick with the candidates left or decide to go on a headhunt.

During his playing days, Schuster, an attacking midfielder, played for both Real Madrid and Barcelona and managed top clubs including Levante, Getafe, Real Madrid, Besiktas and recently Malaga.
