The chairman of the Black Stars Management Committee, George Afriyie, has called for a quick fix to lingering issues surrounding the financial package of the team.

While rumours over imminent slash of winning bonus have been rife in the local media since Ghana’s 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifying double-header with Comoros in November, Goal understands that the team are still owed bonuses dating back to matches played in 2015.

“I’m hoping that this whole issue about bonus slash, debts, outstanding winning bonuses will be fixed as soon as possible,” Afriyie told Starr FM.

“It doesn’t augur well for team building and development. We need to put those things behind within the early part of 2016 and begin to focus on assignments ahead. We need focus to win a trophy.

“You don’t go into a competition with players still talking about how much they are going to receive and who will be paid first and all that. Those things don’t help in football development.”

With reports of an imminent reduction high ahead of the Comoros tie, Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has expressed his disappointment at the development, saying that the team were “not slaves” and could not be bullied into accepting a cut.

Goal understands that the team are still owed bonuses for overcoming Comoros in booking a place for the group stage of the African zone World Cup qualifiers.

The Black Stars return to action in March when they take on Mozambique in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying double-header.
