Seven-member Technical Committee to advise GPC

The Ghana Paralympic Committee (GPC), has formed a seven-member technical committee to oversee its technical operations and provide technical expertise.

The committee will be led by Sesi Dzakpasu, with Benedict Nkyere as the secretary.

Other members of the committee were, Amuzulo K. Adbdul Salim, Emmanuel Sowah, Peter Adjei, Andoh K Koomson and Ibrahim Alhassan Jihad.

The formation of the committee was the outcome of a two-day workshop organised by the GPC for coaches and trainers in parasports across the country at the National Sports College, Winneba.

The committee, according to Bishop Cornelius Adjah Coffie, President of the GPC, was to advise on technical issues such as classifiers, selection of athletes for international competitions, talent identification and grooming.

He said the GPC was looking forward to increasing the number of athletes at the next Paralympic Games in Brazil and the formation of the committee was one of the steps aimed at meeting that target.

According to Bishop Coffie, Ghana had over the years participated in Paralympic Games on wild cards, adding that there was the need to go beyond that and secure proper qualification to the competition.

He said Ghana had a lot of potential in para-sports and could win more medals on the international scene if given the needed support.
