Tema site one defeated community two 3-1 on penalties to lift the Shamo Quaye Memorial Cup in the finals of the Tema inter site and community soccer competition played at Tema yesterday. Fielding players like Dan Quaye, Ansah, Joe Ansah and Emmanuel Adjoku, community two, who were last year champions, played a more purposeful and determined game in the first half but failed to find the net. The tide changed on resumption in favour of site one as their attackers led by professional players, like Philip Ayipey and Abu Iddrisu gave the community two defenders a lot to worry about but they could not score, ending the game scoreless. In the penalty shoot-out, site one converted three as against one by community two. Mr.. E. T. Mensah, Minister for Youth and Sports presented the Shamo Quaye Memorial cup donated by the Volta Aluminum Company and 200,000 cedis to Emmanuel Aidoo skipper of site one. Community two and site 12 who placed second and third respectively received 100,000 cedis and 75,000 cedis each. Among the large spectators were Nii Amarh Ashitey the municipal chief executive, Mrs.. Tina Quaye, Widow of Shamo Quaye and Mr. Kweku Quaye, Father of Shamo. The Ghanaian International soccer star, who died on November 30, was buried last Saturday, January 3 at Tema.
