Smart FC qualifies for Division One

Accra, Oct. 8, GNA - Accra based Smart Football Club has qualified to the National Division One League after they defeated Welfare Stars 2-0 in a special play off match at the Tema Stadium. The two goals of the match were scored by Joseph Oppong and Francis Coffie, the two most influential players of the team. The play off was as a result of a tie between the two Clubs in the Division Two Middle League.

Both sides earned 11 points apiece with Welfare Stars having superior goal difference, but attempts to apply the head to head rule could not materialize after the two sides played a one all drawn game in the Middle League.

The organizers of the Middle League were therefore compelled to use the play off rule, which saw Smart FC under the technical guidance of China-trained coach Ibrahim leading his charges to book a place to the Division One with the hope of progressing to the premiership. Fredrick Quainoo, President and Founder of the newly promoted side in an interview with GNA Sports said that the qualification falls in line with the vision and mission of the Club which was formed two years ago.

According to the Founder, the next target of management is to ensure the Club makes an entry into the Premiership next season. He said even though the target will come with serious challenges they are confident of putting in the needed structures to ensure their early entry into the premiership.

Quainoo said he plans to put in professional structures aimed at developing talents for the Club to enable them realize their dreams within the shortest possible time.

The President and Founder of the Club said the management will ensure they maintain the performance of the team in the Division One League in order to meet their plans and agenda of making it to the premiership within the stipulated period. He was full of praise for Eric Atakorah, Head of Finance and Administration for his excellent administrative skills that saw the qualification of the team to the Division One.
