Soccer: RTU surprise Olympics

For the first time in over three seasons Real Tamale United (RTU) left the Accra Sports Stadium with victorious smiles as they surprised homesters, Accra Great Olympics with a 2-0 win.

RTU netted in each half through playmaker, Stephen Oduro in the 26th minute and Emmanuel Quarshie in the 89th minute.

It was Olympics, winners of last Sunday?s 'Osagyefo Cup' match against Accra Hearts of Oak, who started in a whirling fashion but Wisdom Abbey in front of goal shot wide from close range as early as the 3rd minute. RTU quickly repulsed the attack and mounted pressure on their opponents with Stephen Oduro failing in his goal attempts in the 10th and 18th minutes. Olympics goalkeeper Osei Boateng could however not deny Oduro on his third attempt when he beat him with a grounder in the 24th minute.

After the goal, Olympics, who have lost their last four matches, started attacking in bursts and nearly found the net in the 34th and 41st minutes through Nana Eshun and Amui Quaye respectively, but good anticipation from goalkeeper Mohammed Suraju of RTU denied them the badly needed equaliser before the recess.

On resumption, Quaye wasted the best chance that came the way of his side when he shot wide after taking a through pass from skipper Laryea Kingston in the 50th minute with RTU's goalie already beaten. In the 69th minute Billy Sulley?s finish to the two-man move between him and Samuel Monnie also flew several metres over the bar.
