Kumasi, Jan 19, GNA - The Ashanti Regional branch of the Association of Sports Broadcasters of Ghana (ASBOG) has decided to boycott the GHALCA-Coca Cola Top Four Tournament scheduled to kick-off on Saturday, January 22.
A statement issued in Kumasi to this effect on Wednesday and signed by Mr Boakye Agyemang, Organising Secretary, copied to the GNA Sports said their decision followed the unfair treatment meted out to media houses in the northern sector as partners in GHALCA organised competitions.
Taking the decision at an emergency meeting in Kumasi on Tuesday, ASBOG said it was ironical that while GHALCA expected the various media houses to publicise its matches and functions which was always done free of charge, GHALCA has been treating media houses with disrespect and disregard since the Top Four competition started three years ago. The statement noted that rights for the upcoming Top Four competition were not opened to all media houses while the process to get accreditation to cover the matches had been made too difficult by GHALCA.
"ASBOG might, however, reconsider its decision based on the response we get from GHALCA", the statement added.
