The Minister of Youth and Sports, Edward Osei-Kwaku has been accused of being dictatorial at the Ministry. Reports say there has been constant friction between the Minister and his deputy, Joe Aggrey. The Minister, according to our sources had almost always treated suggestions by his deputy, a former Editor Of Graphic Sports newspaper with a pinch of salt, claiming “he knows it all”.
Some of the suggestions it was alleged, bothered on the winning bonuses of the national football teams which took the sector Ministry over a month to settle, as well as issues relating to the appointment of a substantive national coach for the Black Stars.
Owing to this murky, unhealthy situation, there is an appreciable degree of tension, mistrust and suspicion between the Minister and his deputy. This show of power by the Minister is causing disaffection and killing initiative among heads of agencies under the Ministry.
In view of this development, a group of young men who only described themselves as citizens interested in seeing Ghana’s youth and sports develop, last week, called at the offices of “Evening News” to register their protest and to appeal to the President to personally take charge of the Youth and Sports Ministry.
