Ghana's sports minister Isaac Asiamah has given a subtle approval of Kwesi Appiah as next Black Stars coach.

The Parliamentarian wants the Ghana FA to appoint a local man for the job though he claims his government will not interfere in the selection process.

GHANAsoccernet.com understands the Khartoum SC trainer is the preferred choice for the ruling party amid widespread calls for an appointment of home-grown trainer.

And the country's sports minister appears to have given the clearest indication only an appointment of a local coach will be entertained.

“I don’t want to interfere with the appointment of a Coach for the Black Stars, it is the responsibility of the GFA, “ he said.

“But considering what has happened in the past, looking at the performances of the local Coaches and expatriates coaches, I will prefer to see a local Coach.

“It will also reduce the cost in terms of salary of the Coach so left with me I will like us to have a local Coach, but as I said I don’t want to interfere and the Ghana FA, we are going to support any person the FA chooses.”

The position has become vacant following the departure of former Chelsea coach Avram Grant.

Over 70 coaches, largely expatriates have applied for the job with a groundswell of support for Appiah to return as Black Stars coach.

Three locals - Abdul 'Golden Boy' Razak, Bashir Hayford and Kwesi Appiah have applied for the job with Appiah the obvious choice if the FA decides to go in for home grown trainer.
