The Minister of Youth and Sports Hon. Isaac Kwame Asiamah has expressed worry about the delay in the start of the Ghana Premier League and has called on the GFA to ensure all outstanding matters are amicably settled to ensure the league returns soon.
The start of the Ghana Premier League was unexpectedly put to an indefinite hold up following the decision of Accra Great Olympics to serve the FA with an interlocutory injunction.
The Accra club had a case with the Appeals Committee of the FA for adjudication but suspected that they could be neglected with fears that the league was to be launched while there is no verdict on their case.
The injunction served the FA compelled the federation to call off the annual Ordinary Congress as well as the launch and start of the Premier League – a development that is worrying the Minister.
"To have the league postponed indefinitely due to the injunction is indeed a worry not only to me but the people of Ghana having listened to media commentaries concerning the injunction,” the Minister said.
“This is a country where football is the passion of the nation and so to see the league's commencement put on hold indefinitely affects the game.
“It deprives both the players and the football sporting fraternity what they love to do and this ultimately indicts us as a country with great football history.”
"Once the matter is before the courts, it is my hope that the case is settled soon to pave way for our league to start," he noted.
GHANAsoccernet.com has gathered that the Sports Minister has held talks with top officials of the Ghana FA and some of the parties involved, and the matter is expected to end soon.
