Ghanaian athlete (name withheld) has indicated that the Sports Ministry PRO Elvis Adjei Baah has lied to Ghanaians for saying that the 72 athletes have received full payment of their per-diem.

Ghanacrusader.com broke the news on Thursday that the Ghanaian athletes in Australia for the Commonwealth Games have threatened to take to the streets of Gold Coast to demonstrate over unpaid per-diem.

The athletes were entitled to $2,300 (being per-diem for 23 days)

Immediately the news went viral, the Sports Ministry called the 72 athletes and gave them $1,600 instead of $2,300.

However, on Friday, Sports Ministry PRO in an interview stressed that all the athletes have received full payment of their per-diems.

“That is not true, we have not received the full payment,” the athlete told Ghanacrusader.com. “They supposed to give us $2,300 but they gave us $1,600.”

“We are still waiting for the $700 if they fail to add it we will not return to Ghana.”
