The 2017 edition of the Stanbic-Otumfuo Invitational Golf Tournament tees off at the Royal Golf Course in Kumasi on Saturday 28th October 2017. The 36 holes event is open to professional and amateur golfers who have been invited by The Royal Golf Club on behalf of His Majesty, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and Stanbic Bank, the title sponsor.
At a pre-tournament briefing, Prof BK Baiden, Operations Director of the Club expressed the appreciation of the Management of the club to Stanbic for such a huge financial commitment towards the tournament in a financially challenging year. He was very hopeful that the expected large turnout and the presence of the King will yield the expected mileage for the bank.
Touching on activities planned, Prof Baiden indicated that the opening ceremony will be performed by His Majesty. He would be assisted by Alhassan Andani, Chief Executive of Stanbic Bank and Chairman of the RGCK management team on Saturday morning at about 6:30am. This will be followed by Day 1 of play for all the categories of golfers, namely; professionals, men, ladies and seniors.
A golf clinic will be organized each day by a Teaching Professional at the Royal Golf Club, for general golfing enthusiasts and guests of the sponsors.
The tournament is expected to attract about 170 golfers from Accra, Ankobrah, Beige Village, Damang, Obuasi, Nsuta, Samereboi, Tarkwa and Tema.
The nation’s top amateur golfers in the men and ladies’ categories, Maxwell Owusu-Bonsu and Kwabena Poku, Constance Awuni and Felicity Okyei-Gyeabour also of Kumasi will take part in the event.
The Professionals section will see 8 of the top 10 ranked golfers in the country competing over 36 holes for a prize money of GHS 10,000 (ten thousand Ghana cedis).
