Starlets beat Germany 2-1 in Four-Nation Tournament

The Black Starlets The Black Starlets

Ghana's twinkle twinkle little Starlets continued their dominance in the four nation tournament in Namibia this afternoon with a 2-1 win over European giants Germany.

Goals from Ibrahim Sulley and David Cudjoe were enough to see off the physically built and talented German side.

The game started on a very strong note with the Germans proving very physical on and off the ball.

The technically gifted and skillful Ghana team gradually warmed themselves into the game with goal machine David Cudjoe largely in check by German central Wieman Niklas.

Eric Ayiah missed the post narrowly with a lob in the 16th minute while Ghana-born German international Gabriel Kyeremateng hit the side net in the 23rd minute.

Eric Ayiah again attempted a bicycle kick in the 29th minute which missed in the dying embers of the first half.

Germany made three quick changes in the second half but it was the Starlets who scored after a mazy solo run by Ibrahim Sulley saw him beat four defenders to break the deadlock.

Ghana was on top but instead of pressing for more goals the players resorted to show boating much to the displeasure of their coaches.

In one such antic, Emmanuel Toku was robbed of the ball resulting in a counter attack from which Gabriel Kyeremateng scored to equalise for Germany.

Ghana however had the last laugh in the 75th minute when David Cudjoe suddenly shrugged off his marker to connect to a cross from Rashid Alhassan.

David Cudjoe has since scored five goals in two matches in the competition.
