Former Ghana FA Executive Committee member Kudjoe Fianoo has called for a thorough review of the bonuses paid to the Black Stars especially the payment made to players for friendly matches.
Each Black Stars player is handed $10,000 as bonus for winning competitive matches while a flat fee of $5000 is paid for friendly matches.
Attempts have been made by the Sports Ministry to slash its share of the bonuses it pays to the Black Stars players in competitive matches by a massive 50%.
These attempts have however been met with stiff opposition, mainly from the players.
But Kudjoe Fianoo who remains a member of the Black Stars management committee feels too much is paid for lowly rated friendly matches the Black Stars play in and thus their bonuses with respect to these matches must be reviewed.
“I believe we need to look at the money we put into the team.
“For instance, in one of the preparatory games ahead of the 2015 AFCON, I think we played against a club in Portugal which even didn’t have names on the back of their jerseys and yet we paid $5000 as appearance fee for each player.
“I think for matches of these nature it is probably on the high side to pay such an amount.
“We need to differentiate between paying high bonuses for serious matches and that of competitive games.
“These are part of the reasons why we have a bad name and I believe we must review things.” He told Kumasi-based Boss FM.
