AFTER TWO impressive performances by the Black Stars in the ongoing FIFA World Cup, officials of some of the leading clubs in Ghana are hopeful of lining up lucrative contracts for their players on duty for the national team after the competition.
Offers have started coming in for locals like Shilla Illiasu (picture) and Habib Mohammed, who play for Asante Kotoko and King Faisal respectively.
Their officials here have chanced on that opportunity to secure deals even before Ghana knows its faith after Thursday's game with the United States.
The two players have distinguished themselves very well so far and from all indications here, they will be playing in Europe next season.
The Chronicle has chanced on information that officials of the two Kumasi-based clubs are in serious discussions with agents here who represent some of the leading clubs in Europe.
Also, officials of Hearts of Oak and Liberty Professionals are in close talks with some of these agents about the possible transfer of their players representing the nation here.
For Hearts, their interests lies in Dan Quaye, who, although is yet to feature in the tournament, has caught the eyes of the agents who have been following the Stars training here.
The defender performed well in Ghana's friendly with Jamaica in the build-up to the competition and would be a worthy replacement for any of the defenders when called upon.
The club officials are tight-lipped about the money involved, but The Chronicle sources have hinted that they are huge and the Ghanaian clubs stand to benefit a great deal, especially Kotoko and Hearts who need resources to fund their campaign in the African Champions League after the World Cup.
King Faisal and Liberty also stand to benefit, as it will aid them to prepare well for the Ghanaian league, which is expected to kick off soon after the World Cup tournament.
The mood here is a festive one and all that they are praying for, is Ghana going as far as possible which no doubt will open many more opportunities for both clubs and players.
Many of the foreign-based ones will also do their careers a lot of good if they continued with their stupendous performances, as big offers will come their way.
