Stars to Know Opponents on October 22

The Black Stars will know their opponents for the next stage of World Cup qualifiers with the draw due to be held in Zurich on October 22.

The draw originally scheduled for Cape Town will now take place in Switzerland earlier than planned.

And Ghana will be particularly keen to know whether the Black Stars will be seeded in one of the five groups that will house the twenty teams through to the next stage of the competition.

The Black Stars are hoping a second round finish at the 2006 World Cup in Germany and a semifinal finish at the last Nations Cup will override a not too impressive opening half of the qualifying campaign.

There were few surprises in the 20 names that made it through with Angola who made their debut appearance at the World Cup four years ago and Senegal, quarter finalists at the 2002 tournament the big names out.

Whoever the Stars get in the final round of qualifiers though, it will be a tough campaign.

The twenty teams through are Cameroon, Kenya, Benin, Nigeria, Ghana, Gabon, Algeria, Ivory Coast, Morocco, Rwanda, Tunisia, Burkina Faso, Mali, Sudan, Zambia, Togo, Malawi, Guinea, Mozambique and Egypt.

They will be placed into five groups of four each with the winners through to the 2010 World Cup and the top three going through to the 2010 Nations Cup.
