The Youth Peaceful Elections Unity Soccer Gala kicked off in grand style at the Kawukudi Astroturf Park, with dancehall artist Stonebwoy doubling the event’s prize money.

The award-winning musician, whose real name is Livingstone Etse Satekla, donated GH₵10,000 to support the three-day tournament, which ended today.

The soccer gala, themed “One Goal, One Vote, One Ghana,” aims to promote peaceful elections in Ghana by bringing together sixteen teams from communities including Madina, Nima, and Kwabenya. Football is being used as a tool for unity and peace, encouraging the youth to foster harmony in the lead-up to the country's 2024 elections.

Stonebwoy, who attended the event in person, expressed his support for the initiative and emphasized the critical role of peace during election periods. "Football has always been a unifying sport, and I encourage everyone here to use this event to promote peace before, during, and after the elections," he stated.

His contribution, which doubled the original grand prize to GH₵20,000, was warmly welcomed by both the organizers and participants. Stonebwoy also praised the organizers for creating such a platform, highlighting the importance of community-led efforts to maintain peace during politically charged times.

The tournament has attracted notable figures, including Serki Hakeem Musah, the Madina Nkosouhene, and Asa Awel Abdel Aziz Fadama, the Kajanga Youth Chief, underscoring the significance of community leadership in peace-building efforts.

In addition to the local attention, European scouts have been present at the matches, providing young players with a potential pathway to international football opportunities.

The competition has been intense, with well-known teams such as TuffGong 11, WISE FC, Gaza 11, and Sabon Zango all competing for the championship title.

In the final match, Fadama 133 claimed victory, defeating Sabon Zongo 3-2 on penalties after a goalless draw in regular time. Newtown edged out 441 Nima to take third place, winning 2-1 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in normal time.
