Former Black Starlets goalkeeper, Ali Jarrah, has called on senior goalkeepers trainers in the country to desist from chastising the current goalkeeper’s trainer of the Black Stars Nassamu Yakubu.
Coach Jaraah pleaded with other coaches who have specialised in goalkeeping to unite in the interest of mother Ghana.
The former national star, who made these comments in an exclusive interview with Sports Crusader said, “We have only one spot for the national goalkeepers’ trainer and it can only be occupied by one person at a time.
“All we can do as senior goalies in the system is to come together and form a united front to support the national trainer. We all cannot be given the chance at a time. Let us avoid criticisms and move forward as a unit,” He stated.
On the quality of goalkeepers on the local scene, the 1991 and 1993 World Cup goalie for the Black Starlets expressed satisfaction with the level of quality.
“The quality of goalkeepers in the local league is good enough to compete at the highest level. The quality of goalkeepers at Ashgold, Kotoko, Aduana and other clubs are good enough to compete with the best in the business.
“We have enough goalkeepers in the local league to command a starting role in the Black Stars. All they need is patience and support from us.” He declared.
Nassamu Yakubu is the current goalkeepers’ trainer for the senior national team. He is currently in the news for the shaky performances of the national goalies in recent times.
