Former Mamelodi Sundowns defender Rashid Sumaila has congratulated the club on a “well deserved” Caf Champions League victory over Zamalek on Sunday.

Sundowns became the second South African club, after Orlando Pirates, to win the continental title, following a 3-1 aggregate outcome over the Egyptian giants in Borg El Arab.

Pitso Mosimane's men took a giant step towards the title with a 3-0 win in the first leg played in Pretoria.

"I am very happy for Mamelodi Sundowns. The players have done very well and coach Pitso [Mosimane] must also be hailed," Sumaila was quoted as saying by Ghanasoccernet.

"I warned them against complacency after the first leg win and they defended very well in Egypt. That is an envious achievement and I am so proud of them. I am really happy for the entire team. They've made themselves and South Africa proud," he added.

Sumaila, who now plays for Qatari side Al Gharafa, joined Sundowns in 2013 from Ghanaian top-flight side Ebusua Dwarfs, winning the South African Premier Soccer League title the same year.
