The Flagbearer of the NPP Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has expressed a strong desire to construct an ultra-modern stadium for Sunyani.

The Ahafo Regional capital is noted for hosting two of Ghana's traditional clubs BA United and Bofoakwa Tano, and Vice President Bawumia acknowledged the city's passion for football, as he made the pledge.

While stating his commitment to building new stadia in the six new regions, Dr Bawumia specifically singled out Sunyani.

"We will build six new stadia in the six new regions and we will also build a standard stadium in Sunyani because of their love for football and the many clubs in Sunyani," Dr. Bawumia said, as he announced his sports policies.

On infrastructure development, Dr Bawumia pledged to build on the numerous sports infrastructure the Akufo-Addo government has built across the country, including expansion of astroturf to cover every constituency.

With many concerns raised over poor maintenance of sports infrastructure, the NPP Flagbearer also assured his government will adopt an effective maintenance module to ensure facilities built are well maintained.

On sustainable sports funding, Dr. Bawumia revealed his government's intention to establish a Sports Development Fund, as well as introduce tax incentives to encourage corporate support in sports, as well as tax cuts to boost the commercial viability of sports entities.

Dr. Bawumia also promised direct support to the Premier League and clubs, through policy direction with the National Lotteries and Gaming Commission to mitigate expenses of Premier League clubs, including supporting their salaries.

On the development of sports, Dr. Bawumia revealed his government will establish the School Sports Secretariat, as an agency of the Ministry responsible for sports, to effectively drive the development of sports at the grassroots level through schools, in collaboration with stakeholders, including the Ghana Education Service and Sports federations.
