Sunyani, July 8, GNA - Residents of Sunyani Metropolis have lauded the "superlative performance" of Ghana's Black Stars at the FIFA 2010 World Cup in South Africa and urged the team to remain focused for future competitions.
Most of the residents who talked to GNA Sports showered praises on the team for the thrill and soccer prowess they exhibited at the global event. Sunyani streets witnessed scenes of wild jubilations when Ghana triumphed over Serbia and the USA and many residents have continued to blame the referee in the Ghana-Uruguay match for the exit of the Black Stars at the quarter final stage.
The sports fans have not stopped heaping praises on the 'twinkle-twinkle little' Stars for their sterling performance that had brightened the hopes and chances of Africa in future Word Cup competitions. Madam Diana Owusu, a teacher at the Methodist Primary School told GNA Sports the entire nation owed the team immense gratitude and appreciation "for the graceful and unchallenging manner they held aloft the flags of Ghana and Africa".
"The players have shown once again what accomplishment we can achieve if we are united as on people and as committed citizens and apply our individual talents in pursuit of a collective goal", she added. An elated Ebenezer Twum, ICT Tutor at Twene Amanfo Senior High Technical School stated that it was refreshing to note that Ghana was now acknowledged as one of the best eight football nations in the world. "Our supporters, including non-Ghanaians are satisfied that with sheer determination, coupled with immense confidence and commitment, the players have proved to the world that Africa has come of age", he said. Master Benjamin Obour, a student of Methodist Junior High School noted that the outcome of the Ghana-Uruguay match indicated "Ghana has a great chance of annexing the global diadem the next time around". He commended the management, coaches and technical handlers of the national team for a job well done and prayed for God's blessings on them and the players so they would continue to let the Stars shine. 08 July 10
