Ghana's Citi 97.3 FM, based in Accra and SuperSport, Africa's biggest sport broadcaster, begin a groundbreaking collaboration in radio programming on Friday, March 7.
The two big brands will produce a new African football show called FC Africa.
“We are excited to be working with Citi FM, whose appeal outside of their native Ghana is well known. The aim of FC Africa is to have a football show that is typically African, but refreshingly global in its outlook,” said Supersport.com Africa Football Manager Emeka Enyadike.
On his part, the Director of News Programming of Citi FM, Bernard Avle expressed pleasure at the collaboration.
“Citi 97.3 FM is highly pleased about the potential of this historic partnership between a fast growing radio brand and Africa's largest pay-tv sport brand, SuperSport.”
He went on: “FC Africa is another step towards the fulfillment of the dream of African integration, where soccer fans from Cairo to Cape Town can enjoy first hand information and news on their favorite African stars and teams.
“Citi FM is particularly pleased that after securing the rights to the Barclays English Premiership, we have added this scoop, to further enrich our sports offering to our vibrant audiences.”
The show will be presented by Gary Al-Smith, Citi FM’s head of sport who also doubles as the online editor for Supersport.com in Ghana. It will be produced by Nathan Quao.
For the global audience, the show will stream live online on Citi FM, after which it will be available for download on both Supersport.com and Citifmonline.com.
Supersport has such partnerships in Nigeria and Kenya, however FC Africa presents the continent’s first such collaboration to produce a holistic African football show for radio.
