Defender, Suraj Ibrahim was the best performer on Saturday night at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium when Elmina Sharks recorded their first win in the 2017/18 Ghana Premier League, beating WAFA 2-0 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Kumasi.

Exchanges between the two sides in the first 30 minutes did not give any impression as to which team will carry the day. They matched themselves confidently and left no room for mistakes.

Richard Mpong’s experience however counted so much in the 33rd minute when his excellent cross was powerfully headed home by Benjamin Arthur to give Elmina Sharks the lead.

The first half thus ended with Elmina Sharks, the home team, on top of the game. Back from the break, WAFA made numerous attempts to draw level but Sharks remained resolute, protecting their lead and also doubling it in the 66th minute through Daniel Obeng Crenstil.

Minutes after Elmina Sharks’ second goal, floodlights at the stadium went off due to a power failure. Electricity was however restored after about 30 minutes and the game continued but no goals were scored. Elmina Sharks are 7th on the table with four points and a game in hand. WAFA are second placed with seven points.
