Takoradi Secondary School (TADISCO) yesterday defeated Tamale Secondary (TAMASCO)1-0 in the last group B encounter of the VALCO Schools Soccer tournament played at the Accra Stadium.
The two teams engaged in a heated battle in the first quarter of the game but neither side was able to find the net, despite the numerous chances that came their way.
A real opportunity for TADISCO to take the lead came in the 19th minute but Emmanuel Cann shot the ball over the post with only goalkeeper Abu Waldan Shamadan to beat.
TAMASCO again experienced another dangerous moment in the 30th minute but central defender, Ziblim Sulemana, was on target to rescue his side after goalkeeper Shamadan had been completely beaten in his attempt to grab the ball.
After that incident, the Western boys displayed their individual football skills and, with cohesion, managed to dominate the rest of the half. However, they squandered about four good chances that could have powered them to victory in the first half.
After recess, TAMASCO capitalised on their opponents’ laxity to put pressure on them and nearly got the opener in the 43rd minute but goalkeeper Michael Ewusie's timely intervention saved his side from trouble.
The real moment for TADISCO, however, came in the 54th minute when play maker James Jackson dribbled his way through TAMASCO defenders to send a volley into the roof of the net to give TADISCO the only goal of the match.
In the first match, Aggrey Memorial beat St. John's Secondary, Sekondi, 2-1 to maintain their unbeaten record in the competition.
Deadly striker, Yusif Armaboi slotted home the opener in the 10th minute and added his second for his side 19 minutes later. St John's, however, managed to redeem a goal in the 60th minute.
TADISCO, by virtue of their victory will meet the runners-up of group A, Bolgatanga Secondary, in the second semi-final match, while Aggrey Memorial will clash with Tamale Secondary in the first semi-final encounter.
