Accra, Tamale Senior High School (TAMASCO) and Damongo Senior High School (DASS) lifted the male and female categories of 2010 Sprite Ball Regional Basketball Championship to represent the Northern Region in the national competition.
The event, sponsored by Coca-Cola Company with their product; Sprite attracted 16 teams from the Region.
It was the maiden edition of the competition in the region and saw resolute performance from the Tamasco team that beat their perennial rivals, Ghana Senior High (Ghanasco) 22-20 in an epic boy's finals. Tamasco were simply awesome with some delightful basketball tactics right from the blast of the whistle with Abdulai Abdul Fatawu dominating in all the actions.
On the way to the finals, Tamasco boys defeated St Charles Senior High School, Tamale 21-6, in the semi finals whilst their bitter rivals Ghanasco boys managed to scale the hurdle against DASS boys at the same stage. Dark horses Damongo Senior High school (DASS) made amends as they managed to kill off the challenge of the much fancied Tamasco Girls in the finals. The Northern Regional competition lowers the curtain on the 2010 regional tour.
This has paved the way for 40 schools including some elite private high schools spread across eight regions to compete in the grand finale slated for the El-Wak stadium on 22 and 23 December, 2010. The Sprite Ball Championship 2010 is being organised by Sprite and 'Freedom from Thirst' and supported by Indomie Instant Noodles- and DDP Outdoor. The Media partners include TV Africa, Graphic Sports, Today's newspaper, Ghana sports newspaper GNA Sports and coordinated by Rite Multimedia- Leaders to ensure basketball development and promotion in the country.
