The annual flagship Taekwondo championship of Ghana Taekwondo Federation (GTF) will take place on Friday and Saturday respectively at the D. G. Hathramani Hall of the Accra Sports Stadium.
The competition is known as the “Korea Cup”, and it's being organized by GTF with support from the Korean Embassy in Ghana .
This year’s competition is the ninth edition and it’s also mark 40 years of diplomatic relations between Ghana and Korea.
The Technical Director of Ghana Taekwondo Federation, Master Stephen Amegashie Junior told Graphic Sports that the annual championships was used to select and to revamp the national senior and Para-Taekwondo teams.
He said the championships was limited to the senior weight and Para Taekwondo categories and was expected to attract athletes and coaches from the 10 member regional associations of the federation.
“This particular tournament will be used to conduct national rankings of athletes as required by the World Taekwondo,”
Mr Amegashie Jnr. then mentioned some of the key athletes expected to compete in the “Korea Cup”.
The athletes are, Selasi Damalie, Bernard Gerald Sarfo, Benson Addo, Selorm Fayise, Augustus Agbozo, Edmund Segbenu, Safianu Issah and Julian Aryee.
Some of the female athletes to watch out for according to the GTF’s technical director are Emelia Appiah, Mercy Ati, Eunice Adedepo and Hamdiyatu Bashiru.
