Takoradi Secondary Opens VALCO tourney in style

Takoradi Secondary School (TADISCO) of the Western Region opened the 4th VALCO Football Tournament for Secondary Schools with a resounding 4-2 victory over Asanteman Secondary School of Ashanti Region at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday 29 October 2001.

Ironically it was Asanteman that started as the aggressors and went ahead as early as the 4th minute through Eric Amponsah, who beat the defence of Tadisco to head home the first goal.

The Tadisco lads quickly regrouped themselves and took control of the game with Bartholomew Budu controlling the attack from the left wing. Yakubu Armah equalised for Tadisco in the 20th minute when he connected a low shot from Budu's cross to beat Cosmos Amoako in post for Asanteman.

Tadisco's domination continued and in the 23rd minute took the lead when goalkeeper Amoako could not make a first time save of a shot from Armah to allow James Jackson to finish off the rebound.

The second half was just five minutes old when Tadisco's Emmanuel Armah chipped the ball over onrushing goalkeeper Amoako from a 30-yard range to make victory certain for the Takoradi lads.

Dejection settled into the game of Asanteman and was again caught by the skilful strikers of Tadisco when in the 58th minute James Jackson dribbled past four Asanteman defenders to score the fourth goal.

In a match played earlier, Aggrey Memorial Secondary School from Central Region beat Bolgatanga Secondary School, Upper East Region 2-1. Yusif Armarboi and Joseph Amissah scored for Aggrey while Faisal Gimiyu scored Bolgatanga's only goal.
