Taywood golf championship ends in Accra

J.C. Van-Heljst returned a plus of six to win this year's Taywood golf championship played at the Achimota Golf Course in Accra on Sunday 21 October 2001.

Frank Osah Mills took the second position with a plus of five, beating F.K. Degbe on count back, Kwame Frempong Tenkorang placed fourth with a plus of four, also beating Edmund Addy on count back.

Helen Swanepoel won the Ladies event with a plus of four, beating Mary Hanson on count back, while Victoria Apomasu beat Margaret Anderson also on count back with a plus of three, to take the third position.

Emos Korblah won the Professionals event with a net score of 67, S.K. Klah placed second with 69 net, and J .J. Harvey was third with 70 net while J.N. Quarshie was fourth with 71 net, beating John Dorman on count back.

Taysec Constructions Limited sponsored the one-day 18-hole bogey competition, which attracted about 150 amateur and professional golfers.

Mr Mike Ezan, President of the Ghana Golf Association, praised Taysec Construction Limited for their immense contributions towards the development of the sport and called on other organisations to help develop the game.

Mr Gilbert Morgan, Captain of the Achimota Golf Club said work to improve the golf course to meet international standards under a five-year development programme would soon take off.

Meanwhile, Mona Captan, Elizabeth Quartey, Margaret Anderson and Funkie Majekodunmi, left Accra on Sunday 21 October 2001, to participate in the Ikoyi Ladies Open scheduled for October 22-23 at Ikoyi, Nigeria.
