General Captain of the Black Stars Asamoah Gyan has paid tribute to former teammate Junior Agogo who reportedly passed on today.

A report by online portal Ghanasoccernet.com says Agogo died in London this morning after fighting stroke for four years.

Agogo in an interview with the BBC last year revealed that he has been neglected by teammates after he suffered the ailment.

This claim by Agogo, prompted a reaction from Richard Kingson who apologised on behalf of the entire team.

I read the story today,” Olele told Ghana Web at the time.

“Personally, he is a good friend – when we were in the national team, especially [during Afcon] 2008, we were together as good friends but along the line, I lost his contact. I also feel sorry for him.

“Sometimes when you have friends from the beginning and you think these are your friends and later they betray you like this, it’s very painful, so I understand him.”

But minutes after reports of his death went viral, Gyan whom he played with at the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations has expressed sorrow and shock over the death of forward who scored 12 times for the Black Stars.
